Instead of Getting Trampled…

Black Friday is here, folks.

The endless lines and crowds.
The scratching, clawing and shouting.
Thousands of different perfumes and colognes colliding to form one massive headache.
Did I mention the crowds?

Today I have an alternative shopping opportunity for you that involves no lines.

Starting today, my EP, Stand[by] is on sale over at the store, with a couple of new additions.

  1. The EP itself is on sale for $7 [previously $8]
  2. Holiday packs are now available as well for Christmas gifts:  A 5-pack of CDs for $30 and a 10-pack of CDs for $50.

These prices will last until January 1st.  I have plenty of CDs left, so feel free to sell them out!

As of today, about 400 of you have viewed the individual CD for sale in the store, with less than a percent of that number equating into a purchase.  Perhaps you’ve gotten it on iTunes, and I thank you for that.  Apple hasn’t sent me any reports from all of that yet.  Perhaps you feel that 8 bucks for an EP that was 6 bucks online was a bit much.  I’m not really sure.  Therefore, the sale.

I’d love nothing more than to be busy sending you CDs this holiday season, which would mean we collectively would be busy giving back to the least of these.

I’ll take that kind of busy over this one, myself…

Good luck to you if you go out in the frenzy today.  Try not to get trampled if you can help it.

Friday Quote of Note

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.  – CS Lewis

On Birds & Power Lines

Do we even have a real clue?

This is a question I’ve been asking myself over and over lately.

I’m talking about the power of the Holy Spirit.

This power, the same power that raised Christ from the dead, is for all believers in Jesus.

Whoa.

Do you get that?

This is a big deal.

A. Really. Big. Deal.

With this power, what in our lives can overcome it?  What circumstances can overthrow it?

Answer: Nothing.

Are we like birds who sit on a power line, completely oblivious to the fact the very thing they perch upon controls life and death for them?

When I reflect on my life, I’m often disappointed that in many circumstances (tough ones, especially) I live like He has no power at all.  I don’t know if that’s true for you, but I have to think that it’s not a unique problem to me.

What would things look like if we lived like we have that power?

Can you imagine joy that has no regard whatsoever for our circumstances?  Can you imagine worship on a day besides Sunday?

Or giving until it hurts, only to give some more…cause He’s worth it?

Can you imagine not being insecure with who you are?

These things are possible.  Truth is, if we’re believers, we’re just sitting on it…never knowing what power the Spirit has in our lives.

Let’s take hold of it and live out of it, shall we?

It won’t be easy or comfortable….but I’m convinced that it’s better.

This is why the Gospel is the good news, prompting a response from us each day.

Will we live like we have this power within us, or will we disqualify that power in our lives with fear and doubt?

That’s a daily question in my life….all the time.

Mondays are [sometimes] for music

I wanted to share with you all a band that has been blowing my mind for a while.  I’m sure some of you have already been privy to this group, but I don’t want to assume that you all have.

The Civil Wars consist of Joy Williams and John Paul White, who are both successful independent artists.  But, oh did something wonderful happen when they came together.  Their harmonies will haunt you in the best way possible.  Their single, “Poison & Wine” was aired on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, and the tension of the song is executed brilliantly.  You can watch the official music video of it here.

You can currently get a copy of a live album from The Civil Wars, “Live at Eddie’s Attic” on Noisetrade.

You can also leave them a tip and not just get it free…support the artists if you love their art, I say.

Their full-length record, “Barton Holler” will be out in February (also on vinyl!!), and I highly suggest you get yourself a copy or fifty.  You’ll need enough to give to your friends.  You can’t keep good music like this all to yourself.  People need to hear it.

Follow The Civil Wars on Facebook

Follow them on Twitter

Watch to your heart’s content on Youtube

I’ll leave you with a video of the title track from the upcoming album.  The harmonies are just flat-out ridiculous….reminds me a bit of North Carolina, too.

Question:

Haven’t done one of these in a long while…

My question today for you all:

If you could be doing what you love full-time as an occupation, what would it be, and why?

Some of you may say that is currently a reality for you right now.  Awesome!  Let us know what it is and why you love doing it.

Ready?  Go.
